Expungement Statute New & Improved: Senate Bill 397 Webinar


Senate Bill 397 modified ORS 137.225, the Oregon set-aside statute, during the 2021 Oregon legislative session. This bill made significant changes to the eligibility standards and procedures for setting aside convictions, arrests, dismissals, and acquittals, including the waiting periods, filing fees, objection standard, and more. Get up to speed on what you need to know for your clients.


Nikki Thompson is a staff attorney at Metropolitan Public Defender (MPD) in Portland, Oregon.  She’s in the Community Law Division at MPD, where she works with clients to reduce the harmful impacts of the criminal legal system. She co-wrote Senate Bill 397, and represents MPD as a coalition leader of Clean Slate Oregon.
