6:00 – 9:30 pm

UPDATE: As of December 3, this dinner has sold out. We realize that plans change: Please call 541/686-8716 to inquire for availability as the evening approaches.

Please join the OCDLA Board of Directors in honoring Steve Sady with the Ken Morrow Lifetime Achievement Award!

Steve Sady has worked in the Federal Public Defender Office for the District of Oregon for 43 years. In that time, Steve has, through his advocacy and leadership, shaped criminal law to offer greater protections to criminal defendants in Oregon, and throughout the country.

Steve came to the Federal Public Defender Office after working with migrant farm laborers in Eastern Washington. In this role, Steve challenged sweeping raids through migrant camps through a class action lawsuit asserting Fourth Amendment rights.

The Fourth Amendment became a focus of Steve’s legal advocacy from his passion to curb government overreach and his commitment to protecting individual liberties. In addition, Steve has been a leader in Bureau of Prisons reform for decades. His work litigating against the Bureau of Prisons for its repeated failures to fully implement rehabilitative programming and incentives authorized by Congress has not only shaped the body of habeas corpus precedent in the Ninth Circuit, but has resulted in real change through court orders, revised regulations, and legislative actions. The years of unnecessary imprisonment Steve’s work has prevented are immeasurable.

From his work protecting the legal rights of immigrant detainees to challenging Oregon’s incarceration of pretrial defendants without counsel, Steve has used innovative legal arguments and tactics to change the law for the better.

For all of this and more, the Board of Directors honors Steve Sady with the Ken Morrow Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024.
