COVID-19 POLICY
The Board of Directors has decided that proof of vaccination and booster (if eligible) or a negative COVID-19 test result (at-home tests are NOT acceptable) pursuant to CDC guidelines will be required to attend this CLE and related events.
Specifically if you are providing a negative test you will need to have a negative COVID-19 test result 48 hours prior to checking in with OCDLA at the conference.
Masks are required at this event except when participants are eating or drinking. OCDLA has discretion to modify this policy with the consent of attendees for academic-related reasons.

Friday morning, May 6 (8:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m.)


A special invitation-only delinquency training that involves large and small group work, plus interactive exercises led by inspiring trainers —

$125 registration (no online registration). Limited space.

Limited to 27 attendees, one lawyer per judicial district, plus 3 from Oregon's tribal courts. Let your contract administrator know you would like to attend, and call Tracye May, 541-686-8716, to let her know. Deadline to register: April 25.

Developed by the National Juvenile Defender Center, JTIP is meant to be the “gold standard” in training for juvenile defenders and is intended to help defenders across the country offer the highest level of advocacy for their clients. Visit ocdla.org for more info about OCDLA’s JTIP training.

TRAINER BIOS:

Jennifer McGowan is a supervising attorney with Youth, Rights & Justice, Attorneys at Law (YRJ), a non-profit law firm in Portland, Oregon. She has over 18 years of experience representing youth, children and parents in juvenile dependency and delinquency proceedings. She also oversees the SchoolWorks program at YRJ, where she represents clients in school disciplinary and special education cases. She is a certified JTIP trainer through the National Juvenile Defender Center and has developed and presented trainings throughout Oregon and Washington for over 14 years related to her work with young people involved in the juvenile court system.

George Yeannakis is a Public Defense Services Manager for the Washington State Office of Public Defense (OPD).  George was a public defender in Seattle for over 20 years with The Defender Association and Society of Counsel where he supervised the juvenile offender unit.  He established the Youth Advocacy Clinic at Seattle University School of Law where he was a clinical law professor for five years.  George was then hired by TeamChild, a civil legal services firm in Seattle, under the MacArthur Foundation’s Models for Change Initiative.

Elizabeth Wakefield is an attorney with Metropolitan Public Defenders, Inc., Portland.

Simmie Baer has been a passionate poverty law advocate for 3S years. She created and developed a national model for juvenile advocacy, Teamchild, with offices in five counties in Washington State and several cities across the country. Ms. Baer is a nationally recognized consultant and trainer on juvenile justice issues and trial advocacy and specializes in the integration of adolescent brain development in all stages of criminal representation of youth.
