OCDLA's Gala Holiday Dinner & Ken Morrow Award December 2, 2022 | Benson Hotel, Portland Please join the OCDLA Board of Directors in honoring Gary Berlant with the Ken Morrow Lifetime Achievement Award. Unfortunately, Gary lost his battle with cancer October 6. We send condolences and sympathy to all who knew and loved him. We will still honor and celebrate Gary as planned. Tickets available under "Registration" at left. Details about arriving for the dinner and the evening program under "Agenda" at left. _____ Gary is the 19th recipient of the Ken Morrow Lifetime Achievement Award, which dates back to 2001. The award was created by OCDLA following the passing of renowned Eugene attorney Ken Morrow to recognize the lifelong commitment and significant achievements of attorneys who have worked in the defense community, and those who have made important contributions to the administration of justice. The board commends Gary’s tenacity and skill as a lifelong public defender and office administrator in the Grants Pass office of Southern Oregon Public Defender. As a public servant, Gary has held stints as planning commissioner and city councilor, he founded Josephine County’s Drug Court program, he taught law at the community college and of course, he embodies the “cool” factor defending his indigent clients against the powerful state. Through it all, the board recognizes Gary’s superlative “work-life balance” — blending all of this public service with a love for whitewater rafting, recreation, family gatherings and gigging in live bands around the Rogue Valley and with the legendary band The Intoxilyzers at the Annual Conference barbecue. What's Included? Cocktail reception, dinner, and a short live auction to benefit OCDLA's legislative work. Paying Tribute to Gary will be his colleagues Garren Pedemonte and Pete Smith and bandmate Tony Rosta. Emceeing the evening will be OCDLA President Kati Dunn. Visit the "Agenda" tab for complete details. To secure lodging to stay overnight at the Benson, see the "Venue" tab. |
