Opt In: Recognizing and Interrupting Racism

Join Engage to Change (Kasia Rutledge and Rakeem Washington) for a two-part training on how to identify and interrupt racism in the courtroom, your practice, your offices and in your relationships.

Opt In: Recognizing and Interrupting Racism

These highly engaging and interactive trainings will include reflection and small group work. They are not passive—in fact, at its core, anti-oppression requires action

You will experience a combination of serious dialogue, humor and real-life personal stories. You can expect to emerge with:

  • An understanding of core language and competency concepts.
  • Real-life examples of ways in which racism and other oppressions (homophobia, ableism, xenophobia, transphobia, etc.) are reproduced on individual and institutional levels and leave with tools for reflection and interruption.
  • Opportunities to reflect on the ways in which racism shows up inside of ourselves, in our relationships, and organizations.
  • New skills to identify common micro-aggressions and responses from a variety of intersectional positions.

The trainers rely on their legal and education professional backgrounds to offer engagement for many different types of learning styles.
